Descriptions of Arguments ‘For’ or ‘Against’ a
Topic
We
all use argumentation on a daily basis, and you probably already have some
skill at crafting an argument. The more you improve your skills in this area,
the better you will be at thinking critically, reasoning, making choices, and
weighing evidence.
An
argument is a discussion in which reasons are put forward in support or against
a proposition, proposal, case, topic or an idea or issue.
In
your Board examination you have to write an argument in ‘favour’ or ‘against’
the topic in 50 words.
Illustrative Example:
Q.
Write an argument in ‘favour’ or ‘against’ the topic “Technology can Replace a
Teacher”.
An Argument in
favour of ‘Technology can Replace a Teacher’
There
was a time when there was absolutely no means of learning a new skill unless
you had a good teacher.
But
the times have changed for sure. Even the most complex of skills can be learnt
at home, at least to a certain level, as long as you have a good Internet
connection. And the best part, it's free.
Internet
technology has minimised the whole planet and provides information with the
touch of the screen or click of a key. Study materials are available in
different formats on internet. The learner can choose the format that she finds
comfortable with. The biggest advantage of learning through internet is that
you can learn at your own pace, whenever you have some spare time. So we can say
a day will come when technology will replace a classroom teacher.
An Argument against
‘Technology can Replace a Teacher’
A
teacher not only shares knowledge but also teaches the students the necessary
life skills, inspires them whenever they feel low, and guides them to take on
the right path. This is the reason why teachers are often considered to be the
role models for students. Technology can never bring in the humanitarian traits
that a teacher possesses, and hence, teachers being replaced by the technology,
is totally out of the question. A computer can never prove as an alternative to
a teacher’s quick adaptability to situations.
A teacher does not just speak, but instead, read the faces of the
students sitting in the class, and accordingly work on her words and shapes the
language while delivering the lecture. Technology by no means can be a
replacement for teachers, but yes, it can be used effectively to enhance the
learning process.
