Advertisement Writing (Matrimonial Advertisement)




Matrimonial advertisements are published in the newspapers to search for prospective and eligible brides and grooms. These advertisements are usually published in two categories: the family of the prospective brides usually advertise under ‘Wanted Grooms’ section of the newspaper; similarly the family of prospective grooms advertise under ‘Wanted Brides’ section. These advertisements are usually simple text advertisements that have simple sentences. Keep your advertisement content short, simple and precise so simply include important information like age, caste, education, profession, groom or bride etc and contact information within a limit of 50 words.

  1. Mr. Sharma is looking for a suitable match for his daughter who is working in a bank. Draft a matrimonial advertisement not more than in 50 words to be published in a newspaper.
Wanted Groom
24,5’6”, Commerce graduate working in a bank, looking for a suitable match from Brahmin family only, early marriage, send complete BHP to P.O. Box no. 123 The Times of India Jaipir or Sharma@gmail.com

Note: 24 age, 5’6” height, BHP: biodata, horoscope, pics (pictures), P.O.Box: a numbered box in a post office assigned to a person or organization, where letters for them are kept until called for.
  1. Your uncle is looking for a suitable match for his son. He asked you to draft a matrimonial advertisement not more than in 50 words to be published in a newspaper.
Wanted Bride
27, 5’10”, MBA working in an MNC, looking for a suitable match from a reputed family, Caste no bar, no dowry, send complete BHP to P.O. Box no. 202 The Morning News Jaipir or YZY@gmail.com

Note: You can write simply ‘Matrimonial’ as heading in both the examples instead of ‘Wanted Groom’ or ‘Wanted Bride’.
