Characters
Maya: 12 years old, bright but easily distracted.
Amma: Maya's mother, a hardworking teacher.
Dadda: Maya's grandfather, a retired professor.
Setting
A small, cozy living room in a typical Indian household. The room is filled
with books, symbolizing the importance of language and learning.
(Scene opens with Maya nervously flipping through her textbook. She mutters to
herself, struggling to process the information. Amma enters, looking
concerned.)
Amma: (Gently) Maya, beta, have you revised for your exam tomorrow?
Maya: (Stammering) Um... not really, Amma. I... I got distracted.
Amma: (Sighing) Maya, I've been reminding you for days. This exam is important.
You can't afford to fail.
Maya: (Whining) But Amma, it's so much to study! I don't think I can remember
everything.
Amma: You have to try, Maya. You are capable of doing well. Think about your
dreams. What do you want to achieve in life?
Maya: (Shrugs) I don't know. Maybe become a writer?
Amma: A writer? That's a wonderful goal! But even writers need a strong
foundation in education.
(Dadda enters, smiling. He carries a book, symbolizing his love for
storytelling and language.)
Dadda: What's all this commotion about?
Amma: Dadda, Maya hasn't studied for her exam tomorrow.
Dadda: (Chuckles) Ah, the age-old dilemma! Come here, Maya. Let me tell you a
story.
(Dadda sits Maya on his lap and begins to narrate a story about a young girl
named Devi. Devi lived in a remote village and dreamt of becoming an officer.
Her family was poor, and she had to help her parents with their farm work. But
Devi was determined. She faced many challenges – lack of resources, societal
pressures, and even doubts about her own abilities. But she never gave up.
Through sheer hard work and unwavering determination, she overcame all
obstacles and eventually became a respected officer.)
Maya: (Eyes wide) Wow, Dadda! She never gave up, even when things were so
tough.
Dadda: That's right, Maya. Success requires perseverance and resilience. You
may face setbacks, but you should never let them discourage you.
Maya: (Thinking) I need to study harder. I can do this.
Amma: That's the spirit! Now, come on, let's start revising. I'll help
you.
(Maya smiles and picks up her books, feeling motivated. Amma and Dadda exchange
a hopeful look.)
