About the Author Rama Mehta was born and educated in Nainital. She is the first woman to be appointed to the renowned Indian Foreign Service but she resigned her position after her marriage. She became a top sociologist, lecturer and novelist. She married into an aristocratic family of the erstwhile Mewar state. There is a significant resemblance between the life of the protagonist (Geeta) of the novel Inside the Haveli and Mehta’s own.
